$47,000 paid off in 5 months
Let's Celebrate
$47,000.
That's how much credit card debt one of my clients paid off in the last five months.
Let's celebrate that for a moment.
Five months ago, she was stuck in a cycle that had followed her for decades. Throughout the year, she would accumulate credit card debt. Then her year-end bonus would arrive, she'd pay some of it off, feel relief for a little while, and slowly find herself right back where she started.
By December, she was exhausted. Not just by the debt itself, but by the feeling that she could never quite get her money life together.
We had our first meeting and created a plan.
Then she disappeared.
She canceled appointments. Missed appointments. Stopped responding to my messages altogether.
Honestly, I wasn't surprised.
I knew exactly what had happened. The bonus had arrived, some debt had been paid off, and the immediate pressure was gone. Her nervous system had returned to what felt familiar: avoidance.
For many people, debt isn't the biggest problem. Avoidance is.
So instead of assuming she wasn't interested, I picked up the phone and called her.
To my surprise, she answered.
We had an honest conversation about what was happening. I reminded her why she had reached out in the first place and reassured her that she didn't have to figure this out alone. I told her that if she would simply show up to our weekly meetings, I would help her take the next step. She didn't have to do everything perfectly. She didn't even have to do all the homework. She just needed to keep showing up.
She agreed.
For the past five months, we've met every week.
The truth is, she doesn't do much financial work outside of our meetings. That's not a criticism—it's simply where she is right now. So instead of expecting her to go home and tackle a long list of money tasks on her own, we do the work together.
We make the calls. We review the numbers. We create systems. We solve problems. We tackle the things she's been avoiding. One hour at a time.
Week after week, those small steps added up.
Last week, she made her final credit card payment.
More than $47,000 paid off in just five months.
But the number isn't actually the part I'm most proud of.
What's even more exciting is that she now has a plan, systems, and support to help ensure she never ends up back in the same cycle again.
This is why I believe accountability is so powerful.
Most people don't need another budgeting app. They don't need another podcast. They don't need more financial information.
They need support.
They need someone to sit beside them while they do the things they've been avoiding.
They need someone to remind them that they don't have to do it alone.
So today, I'm celebrating one incredible client who chose to stop avoiding, keep showing up, and change the trajectory of her financial future.
$47,000 paid off.
Five months.
A completely different relationship with money.
Cheers to you, my friend. You earned every bit of this victory.
