Money is evil
Your beliefs about money are quietly shaping your income, choices, and future
A few days ago, my 7-year-old looked at me and said, “Money is evil.” And I immediately launched into a full-on tirade. Not my finest parenting moment, but to me it felt like a 5 alarm fire, because what we believe about money shapes everything.
Let's talk about it.
Money is neutral. It is a piece of paper that cannot move or act on its own, and it only has value because we give it value. Money does not make you good or bad, worthy or unworthy. It amplifies who you already are.
If you believe money can be used for good, then more money means more good. You get the therapy and healing you need. You give your kids opportunities. You stop living in chronic stress over money. All of these are good things.
Here is where it gets interesting. Your brain is wired to prove you right. If you believe money creates good, your brain will find evidence of that. If you believe money is evil, your brain will find proof of that too. And that belief does not just stay in your thoughts. It drives your behavior.
If money is evil, then having money would make you evil. Most people do not want to see themselves that way, so a subconscious pattern starts running in the background. You push money away without even realizing it. You might say no to a higher paying opportunity, undercharge, avoid looking at your numbers, or spend in ways that keep you stuck. Not because you are bad with money, but because a part of you is protecting your identity.
That is how powerful your beliefs are.
Have people with money done terrible things? Of course. But so have people without money. And the opposite is also true. Money is not the cause. It is the amplifier.
Even greed is rooted in a belief that there is never enough. So people hoard, push, and chase more at any cost. That is just another damaging money script.
You get to decide what money means. Your life and wealth become a lot easier when you release negative money beliefs and stop giving money power over your worth. Money is not your identity. It is not your value. It is a tool and a skill you may or may not have mastered yet.
So the real question is, what do you believe about money? And is that belief helping you or holding you back?
If this hit something for you, you are not alone. This is the exact work I do with my clients, helping them uncover the hidden money beliefs that are quietly running the show and replace them with ones that actually support the life they want.
And if you have a teen in your life, this is where it all starts. The beliefs they form now will shape their entire financial future.
If you want support, my Teach Teens Money programs are at www.teachteensmoney.com. If you want to give your teen a powerful foundation before they leave home, I offer private 2 hour workshops for small groups. Grab your teen and their friends and let's set them up with the money skills we never learned. Just reply to this email or use the button below to find a time to chat.
