How my client's “win” uncovered what was keeping her stuck

This is what happens when we look underneath the money.

A week ago, I was checking in with a client about her homework assignment: raising her prices. We had talked about a significant price increase. One that felt uncomfortable. One that required her to step into the next level of her business.

When I asked her about it, she told me she had raised her prices by $10. But $10 wasn't what we had talked about.

I didn't shame her or tell her she had failed. I got curious. Because what was fascinating was that in her mind, she had done it. She had taken the action, checked the box, and was ready to celebrate the win. So we dug into why.

And that's when we uncovered a much deeper pattern. She learned very early in life that she had to be perfect to be loved. Failure didn't feel safe. So she got really good at choosing things she knew she could succeed at and then celebrating herself for succeeding.

Raising her prices by $10 was safe. It was highly unlikely that any of her clients would leave, which meant there was almost no way she could fail. For her nervous system, that kept her safely inside her comfort zone.

So she did her homework assignment... kind of. And then her inner cheerleader started celebrating that she had done the thing because THAT was the pattern she learned as a child: do the thing you know you can succeed at and then celebrate the success.

Except that same pattern that once kept her safe is now keeping her stuck and standing between her and her next level.

So her new homework assignment? Have a big cry.

She needs to tap into all of those feelings that weren't safe to feel as a child. What did it really feel like to believe she had to be “perfect” to be loved? How painful was that? How much did that suck?

Because until you feel and heal your pain, you will continue to repeat the patterns you created to protect yourself from it.

THAT is the work we uncovered from a conversation that started with, “Did you raise your prices?”

This is why sometimes the work isn't the budget. Sometimes the budget, the debt, the spending, or the income is simply where a much deeper pattern is showing up.

And you cannot change a pattern you cannot see.

This is exactly the kind of work we're going to begin doing in the 8-Day Money Upgrade starting August 24th. I'm going to be live coaching every day for eight days, helping you get curious about what is actually underneath the places where you feel stuck with money.

Where are you keeping yourself safe? Where are old patterns still making decisions for you? What might be underneath the thing you keep trying to change but can't seem to change?

We aren't going to shame it. We're going to get curious about it, understand it, and start figuring out what you actually need to move forward.

Because I believe in you enough to challenge you.

The 8-Day Money Upgrade starts August 24th. Come do the work with me.
